COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Firefighters have contained a grass fire east of Colorado Springs near Schriever Air Force Base that burned about 10,000 acres and scorched 10 structures.

Falcon Fire Protection District spokesman Danny Miller says no injuries were reported and that the fire was 100 percent contained.

He says the fire began just after noon Saturday about a mile south of Highway 94 on N. Ellicott Highway and spread west toward Colorado Springs and south toward Pueblo. Miller says about 50 people who lived in houses near Schriever Air Force Base were evacuated but the order has been lifted.

Miller says the fire may have been started by a cigarette but added that officials are still investigating.

He says 15 agencies responded to fight the wind-driven blaze.
