Dutch Clark Stadium just isn’t big enough for Mason Finley. At 6-feet-8 and 330 pounds, the Buena Vista High School junior certainly stands out, and when he throws a discus, records fall.

Monday morning, CHSAA decided Finley was bigger than the stadium and announced the Class 3A discus event at Saturday’s state meet would have to move because “there is a discus thrower competing in the 3A boys discus that could well exceed the distance that facility allows.”

So Saturday morning, everyone competing, coaching and officiating discus will be bused about 3 miles to Pueblo South High to a field that can accommodate throws of up to 300 feet. Dutch Clark’s capacity, says CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann, is about 190 feet.

Over the weekend, Finley reset his state record with a toss of 222 feet, 1 inch at the regional meet in Bayfield.
