With all good friends, there comes a point when we must say goodbye — but for restaurant patrons, saying farewell to their Goodfriends is bittersweet.
The 29-year-old Goodfriends restaurant on East Colfax Avenue closed Saturday, making way for Annie’s Cafe, which is moving in this June from East Eighth Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
“It’s sad, very sad,” said Robert Renfro of Park Hill, who has frequented Goodfriends for 20 years. “We will try Annie’s Cafe, but we’ve tried it on Eighth and Colorado and didn’t like it. We like this place very much.”
“As a patron, I am devastated,” said Dawn Gotlin, who has been coming to Goodfriends since it opened but now works as a server at the restaurant.
“It’s definitely like losing part of the neighborhood where you have a lot of memories. It was always a good destination.”
Others embraced the change.
“I am feeling a lot of melancholy because I’ve been working here 22 years, but life is full of changes,” said Annette Carney, manager of Goodfriends.
“I am looking at it as an opportunity for new doors to open up.”
“There will definitely be a lot to miss about this place,” said Pam Shork, general manager.
