Following injuries to infielder Clint Barmes, and outfielders Willy Taveras and Brad Hawpe, the Rockies have called up Triple-A prospect Seth Smith and are prepared to activate Ian Stewart for today’s game against the Mets at Coors Field.

Barmes will go on the disabled list with a sprained right knee, but it’s unclear whom Smith will replace between Taveras, who hurt his knee last night, and Hawpe, who has been bothered for three days by a cramp in his right hamstring.

Stewart and Smith both provided a boost for the Rockies last September and have been the top hitters for the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, this season.

Smith is in the starting lineup today.

Stewart is a primary third baseman who can provide power off the bench.
