Holiday weather will lend itself to contemplation, as a cool, cloudy system passes through Colorado.
Denver’s temperatures in the 50s will be a bit cool for barbecues. A chance for scattered showers throughout the day will increase this afternoon to 60 percent, with the possibility of a thunderstorm.
The National Weather Service says most of the rain will be light, but there is a chance of localized heavy rainfall over the eastern slopes of the mountains and nearby plains. Still, the weather service says the threat of flooding is low.
Small hail and wind gusts up to 40 mph could accompany thunderstorms.
Light snow could fall above 9,000 feet, with accumulations at higher elevations.
In Denver, more rain is possible overnight, with a low around 43.
Tuesday’s forecast also is for cool weather, but the chance of rain decreases to 30 percent. The high should be in the low 60s.
By Wednesday, dryer weather and warmer temperatures return, with a high of around 75 expected, and by Thursday, we’ll be back in the 80s.
The extended forecast for Friday and the weekend is in the 70s.
