BROOMFIELD, Colo.—A 4-year-old boy is a little shaken up but otherwise OK after his shoe got caught in an escalator at a shopping mall.
Blake Schalk was riding an escalator with his aunt and uncle Wednesday at Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield. Family members say Blake told them his shoe was getting tighter, and they soon realized his shoe was caught up in the escalator.
The boy was wearing a pair of shoes made by Niwot-based Crocs.
His aunt pulled him to safety. The escalator shut down, and was closed about two hours for repairs.
Crocs has received several complaints about its shoes getting caught in escalators, and last month, Japan asked the company to look into changing the design of the footwear.
Crocs stands by its design.
