THORNTON — A 9-month-old boy died Wednesday from injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, and the boy’s father has been charged in the death.
Jesse Daniel Sifuentes was charged Thursday in Adams County Court with child abuse resulting in death. He is in jail on $500,000 bond.
Matt Barnes, spokesman for the Thornton Police Department, told 9News that Sifuentes, 20, was the only person home Sunday when police received initial reports of a baby drowning.
According to police, the infant was not breathing when officers arrived at a neighbor’s home in the 400 block of East Russell Boulevard, but efforts to revive the baby were able to get him breathing again.
The boy was transported to North Suburban Medical Center and then airlifted to Children’s Hospital, where he died.
