Comcast e-mail customers in Colorado and nationwide were unable to log onto their accounts Wednesday night after a hacking incident.
The company’s Web portal, , was down. Users instead saw a cryptic note saying hackers had “RoXed” Comcast, according to postings at and other websites.
More than 14 million subscribers can access the portal for e-mail, news and technical support.
According to Comcast, overall high-speed Internet service was not affected.
Service has been restored for most.
“Last night, users attempting to access were temporarily redirected to another site by an unauthorized person,” said Comcast spokeswoman Cindy Parsons. “While that issue has been resolved and customers have continued to have access to the Internet and e-mail through services like Outlook, some customers are currently not able to access or Webmail. Network engineers are working to resolve the issue.”
There was no indication that e-mail or other private information was compromised in the attack, Comcast said.
The hackers appeared to have seized control of the domain name at registrar Network Solutions Inc. and redirected it to other servers, the company said.
