AURORA — A fight turned into a homicide investigation when a man punched in the face fell and hit his head on the pavement, causing his death, according to Aurora police.
The fight is thought to have stemmed from a minor disagreement that escalated into a fistfight in the street Sunday evening on East Richtoffen Place, said Detective Shannon Lucy. Elimu Penda Holiday, 31, of Aurora was unconscious when police arrived. He died at the hospital a few hours later.
Police made an arrest on assault charges, Lucy said, but those charges will be stiffened as a result of Holiday’s death.
Investigators are not yet releasing the name of the man charged in the crime, as they continue to interview witnesses using a photo lineup to ensure a solid case, she said.
Lucy said the man would likely be identified today.
