Firefighters snuffed an early morning fire at an assisted living center, limiting the damage to the first floor of the four-story building.
The Denver Fire Department was called at about 2:37 a.m. to Golden Manor, 4600 W. Colfax Ave., and firefighters found heavy smoke when they arrived, said Asst. Fire Chief Steve Garrod.
Paramedics and firefighters assisted 48 people who were evacuated from the first two floors of the building, Garrod said. The building has a total of 65 residents.
One resident was taken to Denver Health Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation. Details on the victim’s condition were not available.
No one was in the unit where the fire started, Garrod said.
Residents living on the first level cannot go back to their rooms until smoke damage is cleaned up. They are, however, occupying other units or sharing space with other residents at the Manor and everyone is back in the building, Garrod said.
