It will be another warm day in Denver but the weather will cool off tomorrow and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms will gradually increase through the week.
Today in Denver the high temperature should hit about 88 degrees and there will be a slight chance – 10 percent – of afternoon thunderstorms.
The best chance for afternoon thunderstorms today will be over the far eastern plains, according to the National Weather Service, and some of the storms could be severe with large hail and threatening winds.
A tornado on the plains today “can’t be ruled out,” the weather service said.
Warm, dry and breezy conditions are expected today in the foothills and most of the mountains, the weather service reports, although there could be some isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the northern mountains.
Flood warnings, advisories and watches continue today for rivers on the Western Slope including parts of the Eagle River below Gypsum, the weather service said.
Fire conditions remain high today in southeastern Colorado in the grasslands, along the I-25 corridor and into the southern mountains, the weather service reports. Temperatures in low-lying areas of southeastern Colorado could climb into the 90s today and gusty winds will further heighten fire threats.
There’s a slight chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening along the Palmer Divide and in Baca, Prowers and Kiowa counties. Hail, up to two inches in diameter, and 60 mph winds are possible with the storms.
Tomorrow’s high temperature in Denver should be about 79 degrees and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms will increase to 20 percent, the weather service said.
Wednesday will be even cooler, with a high of about 74 degrees, and the thunderstorm threat in Denver will increase to 30 percent, the weather service said. Thursday’s forecast high temperature in Denver – 66 degrees – could feel downright chilly and the risk of thunderstorms will rise to 40 percent.
Overnight lows on Wednesday and Thursday in Denver will drop into the upper 40s, the weather service reports.
