The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce is expected to take a stand next week on Amendment 47, the ballot initiative seeking to amend the state constitution to say that union membership and dues or fees may not be mandated.

A chamber committee headed by John Schafer, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center, “discussed the matter” at a meeting Tuesday, chamber spokeswoman Kate Horle said, and would make its recommendation to the chamber’s board, which meets June 12.

Schafer did not return a call seeking comment.

Labor interests filed suit last week challenging signatures on petitions used to get the matter on November’s ballot.
