COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Health department inspections, a suicide prevention program and road improvements are among the roughly $9 million in cuts planned by El Paso County to cover a shortfall.
County officials blame the projected shortfall on lower-than-expected tax revenue and rising costs.
The county commissioners approved reductions Monday to cover the gap and plan to formally ratify them June 9.
The reductions represent 4 percent of the county’s $233 million in spending planned this year.
A savings of $3 million would come from converting a reserve fund from cash into property. The county would raise another $2 million by mortgaging the Department of Human Services building.
