Saturday-Sunday. For more than 30 years, the People’s Fair has brought together the Capitol Hill community — and the whole metro area — for two days of early summer sun, fun and frolic. Presented, as always, by the Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods organization, the 37th annual fair promises all the familiar favorites: three carnival areas, live music and, of course, lots of delicious food vendors.
Kids’ activities are everywhere, too, with storytellers, crafts, face painting and a cool 1954 fire engine. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Civic Center park, Broadway and Colfax Avenue. Admission is free.
Saturday-Sunday. The women of Gee’s Bend, Ala., caused a sensation with their geometric quilt designs. Now an exhibition of the quilts is hanging at the Denver Art Museum, and this weekend several of the women will be stopping by. Coincidentally, Saturday is a free day for Colorado residents, so go check out “Gee’s Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt” before the show ends July 6. The ladies will visit 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 3-5 p.m. Sunday. Denver Art Museum, 100 W. 14th Ave. Parkway; 720-865-5000. Regular admission $13 adults, $10 college students and seniors 65 and older, $5 for ages 6 to 18, and free for 5 and younger.
Saturday-Sunday. Larimer Square transforms into a colorful Italian village when the sixth annual Piazza dell’Arte takes over. More than 250 street-drawing artists will hit the pavement, reproducing classic paintings — or creating their own — with sidewalk chalk. Stroll around and make a stop in the kids’ area. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Larimer Square, Larimer Street between Speer Boulevard and 15th Street, and 14th Street from Market to Lawrence Streets. Free; $5 donation for kids’ area.
Today-Sunday. Ah, chili and beer. Is there a better pairing? Celebrate two of Colorado’s favorite treats at the Snowmass Chili Pepper and Brew Fest. Cooks will bring their best salsas and green and red chilis to the competition, while seasonal beers cool tasters’ tongues. Big-name bands heat up the party. 1-9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Fanny Hill, Snowmass Village. Sunday’s events are on the Snowmass Village Mall. Tickets are $15 today, $20 Saturday and free on Sunday. A Party Pass for visitors ages 21 and older is $25 today and $30 Saturday, or $50 for both.
