A man arrested yesterday in connection with a Denver bank robbery is suspected of being the so-called “Beanie Bandit.”

Colorado Capital Bank, 55 Madison St., was robbed about 10 a.m. yesterday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. A man gave a teller a note demanding and cash and warned that he was armed.

He took off with the money.

Denver police were called and stopped a car whose driver matched the suspect description.

Jeffrey Dean Bates, 43, was arrested at the scene.

The FBI said it is investigating whether Bates is linked to a series of bank robberies carried out by the so-called “Beanie Bandit.”
