U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Denver Democrat who was a prominent supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton during her presidential campaign, said Thursday that she will throw her support behind Sen. Barack Obama.
DeGette said she met with Obama when he visited Denver last week and offered to do whatever he needs her to do to win Colorado in November.
She said Obama told her he will work to include Clinton backers in his campaign.
“I thought he was very, very gracious,” she said.
Also Thursday, the Colorado Democratic Party announced the kickoff of its coordinated campaign for local, statewide and national races, with a “unity picnic” at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wheat Ridge’s Prospect Park.
“We know that it is important that Democrats . . . unite behind all of our Democratic candidates for president, U.S. Senate and Congress,” said U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, a Golden Democrat, who will attend the event.
