ASPEN, Colo.—An Idaho man accused of drunken driving is being ordered to complete 24 hours of community service and pay $200 in fines after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

James Veasey of Meridian, Idaho received a one-year deferred sentence for careless driving and an eight-point penalty for driving while ability impaired.

The charges stem from an incident the morning after St. Patrick’s Day in 2007, when police say Veasey drove onto a crowded pedestrian mall.

No one was hurt.

Jurors in Veasey’s trial were dismissed Friday after his attorney discovered that prosecutors never provided a certification form for the police officer who operated a Breathalyzer machine for Veasey.

Deputy District Attorney Gail Nichols said the final outcome of the case was fair.
