Denver emergency crews responded this morning to a mock “explosion” at the Pepsi Center as part of a drill in preparation for the Democratic National Convention.

The exercise, which began at 9 a.m. and is expected to finish at about noon, presumed a pesticides explosion and possible radiation contamination at the arena, which was filled with 20,000 people.

At Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, volunteer “victims” were decontaminated as they were sprayed with water outside the emergency room before being admitted.

The exercise involved crews from Denver police and fire departments, eight hospitals and about 20 volunteer victims at each location.
