LJUBLJANA, Slovenia — Slovenia’s Youth Party “thanked” President Bush on Tuesday — but it didn’t really mean it. About 10 members of the party staged a small protest of Bush’s visit by sarcastically expressing their gratitude to the U.S. leader for “energizing” those around the world who fight for human rights, democracy and the environment.

They wanted to present Bush in absentia with a medal “for opening the eyes of the world about the threats the world is facing today,” such as American environmental policy and U.S. treatment of suspected terrorist detainees.

“With everything that he has done, he has clearly shown us what not to do, ever,” they said in a statement.
