Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper reiterated that no local tax dollars would subsidize the Democratic National Convention after Auditor Dennis Gallagher sent him a letter about funding concerns.
On Monday, Gallagher sent a letter to the mayor saying rumors have been circulating that Denver will have to subsidize the underfunded convention. Denver is $15 million behind its goal to raise $40.6 million for the August event.
Hickenlooper was out of town Thursday on a fundraising trip for the convention, but his chief of staff, Kelly Jean Brough, sent a reply to Gallagher saying convention money would come from a $50 million congressional appropriation for security and private fundraising.
