Getting your player ready...

It isn’t exactly the fast and the furious. But quick and angry isn’t too far off. Rockies center fielder Willy Taveras wants to remain in the starting lineup, and he made a strong bid to stay Saturday against the White Sox by stealing a career-high five bases. Taveras leads the National League with 29 steals in 31 attempts. He’s 11-for-11 in swiping third, which he identified as a priority in spring training. “There aren’t many guys who can run like me when I am healthy,” Taveras said.

A working Holliday.

As fireworks exploded above U.S. Cellular Field after Friday’s game in Chicago, Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday worked in the batting cage. He appears to have regained his timing after a 3-for-17 stint following his return from the disabled list. Holliday singled and doubled Saturday, showing better patience against breaking pitches.

Special K’s.

Jorge De La Rosa pitched himself into consideration to start Thursday rather than Glendon Rusch by posting a career-high eight strikeouts in five innings. Troy E. Renck, The Denver Post
