Whether you knew professional bike racer Mike Janelle or not, Tokyo Joe’s team founder and president Larry Leith wants to encourage everyone to Live Like Mike.
Leith recently created the website in honor of the charismatic Vail Valley mountain bike racer who died of heart failure last Thanksgiving, leaving his new wife, Maribel, and then-unborn child, Mike Jr., behind. The $40 gift set offered on the site benefits the Mike Janelle Children’s Trust and reminds visitors to live their lives a little fuller, just as Janelle’s sudden passing serves as a reminder of how fragile life can be.
The gift set includes a pigment-dyed, preshrunk cotton T-shirt in charcoal gray, stainless steel military dog tag embossed with “LIVE LIKE MIKE,” a free bowl card for Tokyo Joe’s and a variety pack of seven waterproof stickers. The 2008 Tokyo Joe’s team cycling jersey with a “Live Like Mike” logo insignia on the sleeve also is available for $70, with 100 percent of profits donated directly to the children’s fund.
