COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Construction of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s replacement headquarters is expected to disrupt some traffic in downtown Colorado Springs for nearly a year.
Demolition of an existing building on the site will begin June 30 and construction of the new building will start almost immediately after that. It’s expected to be done by the summer of 2009.
The city and the USOC agreed to a $53 million construction deal in March to keep the headquarters in Colorado Springs.
The USOC will lease its new headquarters for a $1 a year over the next 25 years, and then will take over ownership of the building after that.
