A dispute over plans to build a natural-gas pipeline through roadless areas in western Colorado is headed for a federal appeals court.

The Denver-based 10th Circuit was scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday on whether construction should be put on hold while a lower court hears a lawsuit by conservation groups opposed to the pipeline’s planned route.

A lower court rejected the groups’ request for an injunction to delay the work.

Federal officials approved construction of the 25.5-mile Bull Mountain pipeline, which runs from an area north of Somerset to the Interstate 70 corridor in roadless areas of several national forests.
