AURORA — Beau Daniel Suppes already knows how to make an entrance.

The baby boy was born Wednesday just after 7 a.m. in the front seat of his parents’ pickup along westbound Interstate 70 at Tower Road.

“I told them we weren’t going to make it,” Christine Suppes said of the drive to the hospital with her husband, Brent, their daughter, Leah, 3, and Joe Suppes, Brent’s dad.

“The contractions were just getting stronger and stronger,” she said at a news conference.

The Watkins family called 911.

Paramedic Dave Nehrig had just arrived at Aurora Fire Station 12 when the call about the delivery came. “It was a scramble,” he said in a phone interview.

When help arrived, Christine Suppes was in a front seat, and Brent was directing traffic.

“It was very exciting,” Brent Suppes said. “I was happy the firefighters got there fast.”

Nehrig said he turned to ask for equipment and when he turned back, the baby was coming.

“There was no time for anything else,” he said. “Two pushes and the baby was out.”

Wednesday afternoon at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Christine Suppes cradled Beau Daniel, whose due date was sometime next week.

“It was amazing,” she said.
