If the weather cooperates this weekend, about 200,000 folks from around the region will make it to the Pridefest events along Colfax Avenue and at Civic Center plaza downtown. Here are a few food spots that play to the GLBT crowd in that neighborhood year-round. All three are sure to be luring in the fest-minded masses Saturday and Sunday.
Hamburger Mary’s 700 E. 17th Ave. 303-832-1333. Like most weekend nights, the party is likely to move up 17th Avenue to Mary’s. This burger joint just opened a gigantic, and terrifically overdressed, patio in back, and it will no doubt be packed. Stick to the sandwiches here, and maybe a cocktail. And maybe another cocktail.
Bump ‘n’ Grind Cafe 439 E. 17th Ave. 303-861-4841. You never know what they’ll serve — or what will serve you — at this local hotspot where the workers are known to dress on the outrageous side at brunchtime. This popular weekday lunch hub is even more popular for its early and delicious weekend fare, served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Las Margaritas Uptown 1035 E. 17th Ave. 303- 830-2199. A good lunch stop with all the standards, this version of Las Margaritas is a cut above many of the other Mexican eateries around town. The place opens at 10 a.m. on Sundays with its “brunchiladas” and special cocktails.
