AZTEC, N.M.—A Colorado man accused of fatally beating his girlfriend during a camping excursion in northwestern New Mexico is being ordered to spend 16 years in prison.
District Judge Thomas Hynes gave 55-year-old Jonathan Hunt of Ignacio the maximum sentence on Wednesday.
A jury on June 5 convicted Hunt of charges of second-degree murder, battery and assault.
Authorities say 56-year-old Patricia Pacheco of Ignacio was beaten to death last July 3 at Navajo Lake State Park.
