FORT MORGAN, Colo.—Morgan County officials are coping with high fuel costs that are expected to surge by 21 percent over least year.
The county’s fleet manager, Bruce Bass, said total fuel costs are expected to hit $1.1 million this year.
The Morgan County towns of Fort Morgan and Brush are also struggling with high fuel costs for police, fire and other agencies.
The Fort Morgan School District increased its fuel budget by nearly 35 percent for the 2008-2009 academic year. Brush schools increased theirs by only 6 percent, but officials say they may be forced to ask for more.
Even Fort Morgan’s swimming pool has been affected because the chlorine it uses is processed with fuel.
