DETROIT — Gannett Co.’s Detroit Free Press and Denver-based Media News Group Inc.’s Detroit News offered buyouts to employees as they seek to eliminate at least 150 jobs.

The buyouts were offered to employees of their joint operation and nonunion workers at both newspapers, Susie Ellwood, executive vice president of the Detroit Media Partnership, said in an interview.

The Detroit Media Partnership, which operates the business arm of the two newspapers, including marketing, advertising and distribution, is looking to reduce the total workforce by 7 percent, Ellwood said.

MediaNews owns The Denver Post.
