An Arapahoe County teenager has been arrested and another is under investigation on suspicion of painting swastikas on a Jewish homeowner’s garage door.
The hate crime happened Thursday at about 1:44 a.m. in the 6100 block of South Macon Way in unincorporated Arapahoe County, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
The homeowner, whose son had been harassed earlier in middle school because of his faith, told police she saw two juveniles dressed in dark clothing shoveling in her front yard. She yelled at the pair, and they fled the area, the sheriff’s office said. The woman then found obscenities and swastikas painted on the home’s garage door.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office identified two suspects and arrested one on suspicion of ethnic intimidation and criminal mischief. Both crimes are misdemeanors. The second juvenile was released pending charges, the sheriff’s office said.
