GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. — A Grand Junction woman is facing possible charges of driving under the influence after her pickup crashed through a wall of a Fruitvale church.

The Colorado State Patrol says 45-year-old Meliss George lost control of her Ford F-150 pickup about 6:45 p.m. Monday when it drifted off a road and she overcorrected.

The truck then went across the lawn of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and destroyed a planter before smashing through a north wall of the church and entering the sanctuary.

Trooper Chris Wright says a homeowners’ association had been scheduled to meet there 15 minutes later.

Authorities say several pews and choir risers were damaged.

Wright says George indicated she was reaching for a phone, and wasn’t sure what happened after that.

No one was hurt.
