Getting your player ready...

Wearing an ugly 9-for-58 slump, Todd Helton doubled in the third inning. The first baseman is struggling not only to get hits, but hits with any oomph.

His double off Luke Hochevar was only his fourth extra-base hit this month, and his first since June 12. For now, manager Clint Hurdle continues to show faith in the veteran rather than drop him out of the cleanup spot. Helton went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

Roster shuffle.

Left-hander Micah Bowie’s rehab assignment ended, and he was outrighted to Triple-A after clearing waivers, leaving the Rockies with 39 players on their 40-man roster. The Rockies have talked about bringing up a Triple-A left-hander such as Glendon Rusch or Mark Redman.

Good call.

Before Wednesday’s first pitch, the umpires issued a warning to both teams about retaliating following Ramon Ramirez’s ninth-inning actions Tuesday. Yet, when Aaron Cook hit leadoff man David DeJesus in the leg with a two-strike curveball, the umpires wisely saw it as accident and didn’t eject anyone.Troy E. Renck, The Denver Post
