DENVER—Prosecutors have charged a man suspected in the 1998 rape of a woman after investigators tied him to the case using DNA.

The Denver District Attorney’s office says 38-year-old Melvin Bright allegedly attacked the woman when she was on her way to a bus stop after leaving work late one night. Bright is accused of forcing the 34-year-old woman into his car and assaulting her in a parking lot.

The woman later reported the attack.

Prosecutors say they identified Bright as a suspect earlier this year. They say he is currently serving a 545-day jail sentence on a third-degree assault case.
