A 49-year-old Longmont Theatre Company actor was arrested today for investigation of using his position to molest a 13-year-old girl, authorities say.
John Anderson, who performed in the theater’s April production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” allegedly sexually assaulted the girl several times, said Cmdr. Tim Lewis, spokesman for the Longmont Police Department.
“A 49-year-old man targeting a 13-year-old girl is extremely wrong,” Lewis said. “There is just no excuse for this.”
The parents of the girl discovered several graphic e-mails between their daughter and Anderson, he said.
“There were some very intense e-mails between the two,” Lewis said. “He had contact with her from April through this week.”
After the victim’s parents found the e-mails, they brought their daughter to the police station, he said.
The girl has cooperated with detectives, Lewis said. Anderson has not been cooperative, he added.
Anderson was taken to the Longmont police station and will be transferred to the Boulder County Detention Center on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust, Lewis said.
Police served search warrants on Anderson’s home and another house related to the investigation, Lewis said. Authorities will confiscate computers, cellphones and any journals Anderson may have kept, he said.
Calls to the theater company have not been returned.
