ARVADA — A lawsuit against Arvada has been filed in Jefferson County District Court by a group of residents seeking to prevent the city from being part of the Jefferson Parkway Public Highway Authority.
The group, Arvadans for Responsible Transportation, wants to hold an election on an ordinance passed in May in which the city entered into a contract with Broomfield and Jefferson County to form the authority, which seeks private funding to complete the metro beltway.
Arvadans for Responsible Transportation was denied a petition drive on the issue, with city officials saying the ordinance wasn’t subject to a referendum because of “contractual obligations of the city.”
