WESTCLIFFE — The Custer County coroner says a hiker has died after falling about 100 feet near the summit of a fourteener in the Sangre de Cristo range.
Custer County Coroner Art Nordyke told The Gazette the woman died Saturday morning near the top of the 14,197-foot Crestone Needle.
Her name wasn’t immediately released.
Bob Pruiksma of Custer County Search and Rescue tells the newspaper the woman was in a group of four of five people who had hiked to about 13,500 feet when she fell.
