Want to know why the Tigers have been hot and the Rockies not?
Tigers outfielder Ryan Raburn came to the plate in the fourth inning with two outs and the bases full and unloaded the first grand slam of his career. In the Rockies’ fifth, Brad Hawpe came to the plate facing the same scenario and struck out. In the Rockies’ sixth, Todd Helton struck out on a checked swing with two outs and the bases loaded.
DH blues.
Using designated hitters in interleague play had not been a boon for the Rockies, until a game was on the line in the ninth. Overall, their DHs have gone 4-for-32 (.125). In that role, Jeff Baker is 1-for-9, Scott Podsednik 2-for-8 and Ryan Spilborghs (Saturday’s DH) 2-for-16. But Spilborghs brought the Rockies to within a run with a clutch, two-out RBI single in the ninth.
Caught stealing.
After swiping 16 straight bases, Willy Taveras was thrown out in the third inning.
