Getting your player ready...

Colorado Springs Sky Sox first baseman Joe Koshansky is getting a lot done without trying.

As the Sky Sox moved into a weekend series in Portland, Ore., Koshansky’s work at the plate had been a factor in their winning seven of nine games. In the nine games, Koshansky drove in 10 runs and collected five extra-base hits — three home runs and two doubles.

The handy hitting pushed the fifth-year player in the Rockies organization to minor league-leading totals of 76 RBIs and 50 extra-base hits. His 30 doubles are tied for the minor-league lead. Koshansky said the big numbers are coming naturally.

“I have to battle against going up to the plate and trying to hit home runs,” Koshansky said. “Home runs obviously are a big statistic, but every time I try to hit a home run, I ground out to second or hit a popup. The RBI total is the most important statistic for me. It says that I’m helping the ballclub win.”

Koshansky, a left-handed swinger, is hitting .353 at home in Security Service Field, .378 with runners in scoring position, .329 against left-handed pitching and .292 for the season.
