Colorado Public Radio will move news and information station KCFR to 90.1 FM and classical music station KVOD to 88.1 at 10 a.m. on July 9.

As reported six months ago, Colorado Public Radio purchased Christian-formatted 88.1 FM in Denver. KCFR, currently at 1340 AM, moves to KVOD’s old home at 90.1 FM. The 1340 AM frequency will be offered for sale.

The deal represents the fulfillment of CPR’s seven-year push to buy another FM station in Denver.

While the two FM signals will blanket metro Denver, 90.1 FM is the stronger signal. Some listeners already have complained that the 88.1 FM signal will not reach far enough to the north. Fort Collins classical-music lovers may be disappointed.

According to spokeswoman Erica Stull, CPR is pointing listeners to alternatives such as Internet streaming, Internet radio and HD radio.
