Say what? It’s the first week of the NFL preseason and President Bush is leaving the country?
The White House announced Thursday that Bush will attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing.
Other world leaders have talked of boycotting the Aug. 8 opening ceremony because of China’s violent crackdown after anti-government riots and protests in Tibet.
White House press secretary Dana Perino said Bush will travel in August to South Korea, Thailand and China and will attend the opening ceremony with first lady Laura Bush.
Bush’s trip is built around the Olympics, which he plans to attend as a celebration of sports, the White House has said.
