COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Tom McManus and Mehdi Ballouchy scored goals in the first half and the Colorado Rapids cruised to a 4-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Friday night.
Colin Clark added a goal in the 49th minute and speedy Jamaican Omar Cummings came off the bench to seal the game with a goal in the 68th minute.
The Rapids (6-8-1) had scored only four goals during a four-game winless streak.
McManus opened the scoring in the 24th minute off a pass from Clark. Ballouchy, who started for the first time this season, scored his first goal off a crossing pass from Terry Cooke in the 36th minute to give the Rapids a 2-0 lead at halftime.
New York (5-5-5) entered the game with only one loss in its previous five games.
The last time the Rapids scored four goals was against Los Angeles in the first match of the year.
“Being realistic and honest, I think we’ve played well the last four or five games. We just could not score,” Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo said. “You could see today we still had a lot of chances we should have put away.”
The crowd of 18,776 was the largest at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since the stadium opened in 2007.
“Sometimes we don’t show this. We did tonight, and the atmosphere was great,” Clark said.
