LOVELAND — A 21-year-old Evans man drowned Saturday while swimming at Boyd Lake.
Divers pulled an unconscious Omar Felix from the bottom of the lake about 42 minutes after he sank beneath the surface while swimming to buoys at a public beach, officials say.
Felix was swimming with a family member to the buoys, which are in water about 6 feet deep, when he began struggling, deputy fire marshal Scott Pringle said.
The relative tried to grab Felix but was unable to hold him up, he said.
Loveland dive team members using two boats searched for several minutes until Felix was discovered about 50 yards from shore in water up to 8 feet deep, Pringle said.
The Larimer County coroners office said Felix was declared dead after arriving at McKee Medical Center at 1:36 p.m.
