EUGENE, Ore.—Ian Waltz, Michael Robertson and Casey Malone have won the top three discus spots at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials, earning a trip to the Beijing Games.
Malone coaches at the University of Colorado and was an NCAA champion at Colorado State. He threw 205-07 (62.67) to finish third and will be making his second trip to the Olympics.
Waltz, a 2004 Olympian and two-time U.S. champion, won the event with a throw of 216 feet, one inch (65.87 meters).
Robertson, the U.S. outdoor champion last year, threw 209-01 (63.73).
In track, Air Force volunteer cross country coach Lopez Lomong finished third in the 1500-meter run. He will also go to the Beijing games.
