GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction man is dead after a head-on crash between his motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle.

The Colorado State Patrol says 29-year-old James Edward Waegli Jr. was northbound on a Forest Service road Saturday night when his off-road cycle skidded on some gravel and slammed into a Ford Bronco that had stopped.

Waegli was thrown from the bike and landed in the middle of the road. He was later taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction where he was pronounced dead.

The crash occurred atop Grand Mesa, near the Never Sweat Lakes about 10 miles south of Collbran.
