The Roaring Fork Valley now has 3G.
AT&T Inc. announced today the launch of the company’s third generation wireless network in Aspen, Snowmass Village, Basalt, El Jebel, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.
The 3G network gives AT&T subscribers broadband-like speeds on their cell phones and access to the latest interactive voice, video and data applications.
AT&T already covers much of Colorado with the network, which offers download speeds of up to 1 megabit per second. The expansion comes just a few days before the Friday launch of the Apple 3G iPhone. The current iPhone uses AT&T’s Edge network, which has average speeds of 75 to 135 kilobits per second.
“AT&T 3G delivers an ‘in-building’ experience when customers are on the move,” said Jace Barbin, vice president and general manager for AT&T’s wireless unit in the Rocky Mountain Region. “They can view videos from their favorite shows, play games, download music, check the stock market or just read and write e-mail as if they were at home or in the office.”
AT&T plans to spend more than $50 million upgrading its network in Colorado in 2008.
