Authorities are still looking for a pit bull that took a gunshot to the neck as it charged a police officer during a traffic stop Sunday.
The dog leaped from the car of a man who was pulled over in south Weld County on suspicion of drunken driving and fleeing police at the park-n-Ride off Interstate 25 in Frederick.
The dog was first shocked with a Taser before an officer from neighboring Dacono shot the dog as it was charging officers. The dog ran off bleeding badly into the vast fields of brush and tall grass. Animal control officers patrolling Sunday speculated the dog wouldn’t survive long.
“We’re still looking for him, but we don’t think he’s out there running around,” Frederick Police Sgt. Bob Bedsaur said Monday evening.
The dog’s owner, Raul Sanchez, 32, of Platteville, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and driving without a license. He remains in the Weld County Jail.
