Being a casual Rockies fan, it kills me to see this team take a step backward this year. I understand that Brothers Monfort now feel their timid ownership style has been confirmed because of their run to the World Series last fall. That includes their desire to try to will this team and coaches to win in order to avoid having to make tough personnel changes. That being said, how can they keep Bob Apodaca as pitching coach? In his six years here he has failed to develop a consistent pitching staff regardless of the humidor. Worse yet, his pitchers commonly regress in their development. A pitcher should not go into a slump that results into a year-long swoon. Apodaca should be there to help coach the players out of mechanical problems and to help them grow during their career. The list of those who have been left hanging goes on and on — Jamey Wright, Ubaldo Jimenez, Franklin Morales, Manny Corpas, Aaron Cook, Jeff Francis, Scott Elarton, Denny Neagle — as those who have not been served well by Apodaca’s tenure.
