NEW YORK — With his usual wit and smarts, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle revealed his National League lineup today for Tuesday’s All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.
He named Milwaukee’s Ben Sheets his starter, less than a week after the ace struck out 11 of the first 15 Rockies he faced at Miller Park.
“I’m not very smart, but I picked up on that,” Hurdle said, to laughter.
Hurdle took seriously the task of arranging his lineup, putting down several options over the past few weeks.
His lineup will go against Cleveland’s Cliff Lee, who was chosen to start for the American League.
“I know you hear a lot of talk about OPS, OBP, but I’m a big fan of GUTS,” Hurdle said.
“All I know is this is the best lineup I have ever written down as a manager.”
Here’s a look at the lineup:
SS Hanley Ramirez
2B Chase Utley
1B Lance Berkman
DH Albert Pujols
3B Chipper Jones
RF Matt Holliday
LF Ryan Braun
CF Kosuke Fukudome
C Geovany Soto
