If you plan to be outside today, consider packing extra water because the afternoon high will spike at 97 degrees, the hottest day this week, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will bring little relief, blowing from the north between 5 and 7 mph.

Tonight, the low will dip to 66 degrees, as winds remain gentle. The Weather Service forecasts a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. today and midnight.

Tomorrow will be cooler and possibly wetter. Mostly cloudy skies will bring a high near 85 degrees, and the chance of rain will climb to 30 percent after noon. Thursday night will drop to 62 degrees, with winds picking up from north. Gusts could reach 23 mph, the Weather Service says.

Temperatures will remain steady Friday, before climbing over the weekend. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday shows partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. The Weather Service expects a slight chance of rain both days.
