LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers will be without closer Takashi Saito for at least six weeks.
Saito was diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his pitching elbow, and the 38-year-old right-hander will be placed on the 15-day disabled list when the Dodgers return from the all-star break Friday night in Arizona.
Manager Joe Torre said Jonathan Broxton would be the team’s interim closer.
Ordoñez rejoining Tigers.
Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordoñez is scheduled to be activated from the DL before tonight’s game at Baltimore. He has been out since June 29 with a pulled oblique. Outfielder Clete Thomas is being sent to Triple-A Toledo (Ohio).
White Sox send Jenks to rehab.
White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, on the DL with a sore left scapula, had his rehab assignment transferred from Single-A Winston-Salem (N.C.) to Double-A Birmingham (Ala.).
The White Sox also asked waivers on infielder Pablo Ozuna for the purposes of granting him his unconditional release.
Damon could return next week.
Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon could hit off a tee Friday and hopes to rejoin the team by late next week. Damon is on the DL with an injured left shoulder.
Also, Yankee Stadium’s regular-season finale will be a night game. The Yankees’ Sept. 21 game against the Orioles has been scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MT and will be televised nationally by ESPN.

• A 7-year-old boy whose skull was fractured by a foul ball at Wrigley Field is doing well and has been released from the hospital. Dominic DiAngi of Frankfort, Ill., headed home from Children’s Memorial Hospital with the “same old twinkle in his eye,” according to his father, Peter DiAngi.
• A.J. Ellis hit a two-run double to cap a ninth-inning rally by the Pacific Coast League and it held off the International League 6-5 in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Louisville, Ky.
